Abstract

1,140,082. Printing processes. SCOTT PAPER CO. 7 Jan., 1966 [8 Jan., 1965 (8)], No. 955/66. Heading B6C. [Also in Division C3] Aqueous solutions of "cationic self-curing resins" and a water-soluble dye may be used as printing fluids for printing cellulose webs if they have a stability greater than 1 hour and a viscosity below 20 c.p.s. at 77‹ F. and are capable of producing a cured print having a transference value of 0 to 4 (determined by comparison to reference procedures described in detail for each of the values 0, 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5). The resins are defined as being "cationic" if they contain non-amido ammonium, sulphonium or phosphonium groups in the polymer chain or pendantly co-valently attached thereto and as being "self-curing" if they are capable of becoming water-insoluble, hard and durable without applied heat. In examples such inks are obtained from numerous dyes identified by their colour index No. and the following resins: (1 to 3 and 7 to 9) amine- or melamine-modified urea-formaldehyde resin according to Specification 912,902 plus additional formaldehyde, (4 to 6) epoxidized polyamide, (10 to 12) polyhydroxypolyalkylenepolyurea - formaldehyde according to U.S.A. Specification 2,699,435 plus additional urea, (13 to 16) melamine-formaldehyde according to U.S.A. Specification 2,345,543 plus additional formaldehyde, and (17 to 18) polyvinyl-sulphonium resin according to U.S.A. Specification 3,130,117. Reference is made to Specification 1,140,083 which describes and claims a detailed printing process in which the inks may be used.
