[Also in Division F1] A gas pressure relief arrangement comprises at least one pressure relief valve 1, 2, Fig. 1, connected to an outlet pipe and diffuser 17, 18 and a silencer structure defining a housing containing the relief valve and an adjacent first chamber 15 containing the diffuser, the first chamber outlet being divided by an acoustically absorbing lattice. Excess pressure in an underground gas main 3 passes firstly via pipe 7, stop valve 2, relief valve 2 and outlet pipe 11 to diffuser 18, and, if there is insufficient pressure relief, also passes through the larger relief valve 1 to diffuser 17. Tubes 19 comprise sleeves of expanded or perforated metal sheet encased in sound insulating material, e.g. fibreglass wool, suspended side by side. Chamber 15 has a water drain 21 and may have an acoustic lining 20. Each relief valve may have more than one outlet pipe. The structure is of brick or concrete construction with front and rear doors. In another embodiment, the structure is of sheet metal with a lattice formed by a series of splitters (30), Fig. 2 (not shown), comprising vertical sheets of sound absorbent material retained between perforated sheet metal facings, the lattice being arranged in a lower surface of the first chamber (15). The tubes 19 may replace the splitters (30) in Fig. 2 and vice versa.
