Abstract

1,274,414. Sound insulation. PAR ACOUSTICS Ltd. 19 April, 1971 [20 April, 1970], No. 18862/70. Heading F2X. An acoustic shroud for a burner assembly of a boiler comprises a casing provided with sound attenuating material and designed to enclose the burner assembly, and having an air passage provided with sound attenuating means for the admission of air to the burner assembly. As shown, the casing has a front wall 6 which is closed except adjacent its upper edge where it is provided with louvres 7 through which air can pass into the interior of the casing. The inner side 8 of the top wall 5 of the casing has secured to it a layer of sound attenuating material 10 spaced from which is a further layer of sound attenuating material 11 secured to the upper surface of a plate 12. The space between the two layers 10, 11 forms an air passage P. The sides of the passage are formed by the side walls of the casing affixed to which are further layers of sound attenuating material 28. A further layer 14 of sound attenuating material may be disposed adjacent the lower surface of the plate 12 to provide additional silencing. A suitable sound attenuating material is flame retardant faced fibreglass. The casing includes a backing plate not normally provided with sound attenuating material and provided with a circular opening through which the fuel and air pipe (not shown) passes from the burner assembly into the boiler. The casing is provided with castors 25 so that it can be moved easily into engagement with the backing plate, the casing not normally being secured to the backing plate. Access can thus be made to the burner assembly simply by wheeling the casing away.
