Abstract

The sound attenuating unit (10) is fixed to the outside wall (30) of a room. It has a rectangular casing (15) with an opening (22) at one end which fits over an opening (31) in the wall and an opening (14) at the other end which admits air into the room. The internal sides of the casing are lined with sound absorbing material (16). The thickness of the lining on the long sides is not uniform and the variations on the two long sides are in opposite directions so that the air passage (13) left between them is of uniform cross section with an undulating or labyrinth form.
