Abstract

The heat recuperation system is for an open fireplace and has an inner hood immediately above the burning fuel, supporting a chimney passing straight up and through the ceiling. A sloping outer casing encloses both the hood and the chimney. Between the top of the casing and the ceiling is a gap for sideways distribution of hot air from the space between the outer casing and the chimney. Alternatively the hot air can circulate above a false ceiling. The interior of the sloping casing can be covered with reflective foil, which can also be backed by reflective or insulating panels. The interior of the hood can be fitted with a catalytic or electrical diffuser to supply further heat.
