Abstract
1367923 Infra - red gas burner RAI RICERCHE ED APPLICAZIONI INDUSTRIALI SpA 26 Nov 1971 [26 Nov 1970] 55082/71 Heading F4T In a gas-fired infra-red burner including a first non-porous generally flat reflector 40 and a second non-porous generally curved reflector 70 having a concave surface facing the first reflector 40, a combustible fuel gas mixture is directed to impinge on the concave surface of reflector 70 and be reflected to impinge on reflector 40. The fuel gas mixture passes from a conduit 20 through a sleeve 30 and orifice 32 to a plenum chamber 14, defined by an outer casing 10 and an inner casing 12, in which a deflector 80 circulates the mixture. The mixture then passes through a median longitudinal opening (18), Fig. 5 (not shown), in the inner casing 12 and first reflector 40, and is ignited by an electric arc between a central electrode 90 and the reflector 40. After reflection from reflector 70 and then reflector 40, the combustion products exit through flue openings 82 between reflector 40 and the side walls of the burner. The first reflector 40 is insulated from the inner casing 12 by layers 58, 60 of ceramic fibre. The reflectors 40 and 70 are of a nickel-chrome alloy and are mounted on rods 42, 44 and 72 which permit sliding thereon of the reflectors during thermal expansion. An electronic system including the electrode 90 may be used to monitor the presence of a flame.
