Abstract

1,138,466. Felted filter medium. AMERICAN FELT CO. 6 Jan., 1966, No. 651/66. Heading D1R. [Also in Division B1] A felt, of nylon, polypropylene or 'Dacron' (Trade Mark) fibres, for use as a liquid-filtering medium, is subjected to needle-punching until its pore size is reduced to the minimum attainable value, as defined by the equation wherein D=pore size in microns d=fibre diameter in microns W=density of felt in grams per cubic inch F=fibre size in denier (grams per 9000 metres). The felt may be needled to a woven nylon or cotton backing and is made into a filter bag or used as separate sheets in a filter press, to cover a rotary filter drum or to form a multilayer bed.
