Abstract

1,170,272. Coated fabrics. BURY & MASCO INDUSTRIES Ltd. 6 April, 1967 [25 Jan., 1966], No. 3207/66. Heading B2E. [Also in Division D1] A fibrous fabric for filtering oils or gases comprises a needle-felted fabric consisting principally of regenerated cellulosic fibres, the batt of fibres being decatised or compressed to produce a high density porous material. The fabric is preferably decatised by being wound, together with a woven cotton sheet, on a perforated steaming cylinder, the steam being passed through the cylinder to the fabric. Decatising may be effected between needling stages or at the end of the needling. The fabric may be coated or impregnated with a resinous material which may be in the form of an aqueous solution or dispersion. The batt is preferably built up of layers of cross-laid, straight-laid or random-laid fibres, or any combination thereof. The cellulosic fibres (e.g. viscose) may be mixed with natural and/or synthetic fibres. The compression of the fabrics may be achieved by plates or rolls.
