Abstract

1,144,110. Coated products. KALLE, A.G. 29 Dec., 1967 ,[30 Dec., 1966], No. 58996/67. Heading B2E. [Also in Division D1] An open pore material of fibrous or foam structure which is flexible, compressible and resilient is impregnated with a solution of, or with a solution for the production of, or with a dispersion of the polymer substance, which substance can, by treatment by means of a precipitating agent or by heat, be caused to undergo solidification over a period in a manner such that when, within this period, such an open-pore material impregnated therewith is subjected to compression followed by removal of the pressure, the polymer substance is caused to deposit within the pores of the material in the form of strings, threads or fibres spanning the pores, and the impregnated material is processed accordingly to produce such a deposit. The fibrous or foam structure may consist of cellulose, polyesters, polyamides or polyolefins and may be a loosely woven cotton fabric, fibre fleece of polyester fibres or a cross-linked ethylene-propylene elastic foam plastic. The polymer substance may be a polyester or poiyether urethane or butadieneacrylonitrile copolymer which may be dissolved in N-methylpyrrolidone or dimethylformamide or dispersed in water or an aqueous solution and the precipitating agent may be water. The compression may be applied by means of a vibration producer of a frequency of 10-500 oscillations per second, a web of loose fabric impregnated with a polymer solution for example, being passed over a metal bar performing 50 oscillations per second perpendicularly to the plane of the web, the amplitude being about 1mm, or by non-recurrent pressure.
