Abstract

1,138,264. Valves; cams. RADIATION Ltd. 10 Jan., 1967 [24 Jan., 1966], No. 3042/66. Headings F2K and F2V. A gas tap comprises a closure 15 which is moved to and from seat 20 by alternate pushes on axially slidable spindle 9 which carries a freely rotatable washer 25 provided with ears 26 (Fig. 2) co-operating with a pair of stationary cams 29, 33. As best seen in the development shown in Fig. 9, cam 33 has teeth which ensure uni-directional rotation of the ring (from right to left in Fig. 9) whilst cam 29 has alternate deep and shallow dwells 31, 32 which control the distance the spindle and closure can move to the right under the action of springs 19, 27 when manual pressure on the spindle is released. In one modification (Fig. 10, not shown) cam 29 has dwells of three different depths to provide an intermediate setting of closure 15. In a further modification (Fig. 11, not shown), the cap 5 has an extension (5a) carrying an abutment (41) for a cross-pin (40) on spindle 9 which provides the intermediate setting of closure 15.
