Abstract
1,136,186. Cleaning ships' hulls. J. VADSETH. 19 Sept., 1967 [21 Sept., 1966], No. 42511/67. Heading B7M. A device for removal of marine growth from the sides of a ship afloat comprises at least one elongated cylindrical brush 3 having its upper end suspended at 4 for free pendulum movement and being rotatable about its longitudinal axis around a substantially vertical axis and projecting downwards from one end of an arm 5 the other end of which is swingably connected at 6 to a quay, dock gate or other fixed structure 1, the swingable connection being powerloaded, e.g. by springs or hydraulic means to urge the brush into contact with the ship's side. Each arm 5 may carry a group of two or more brushes which may be rotated in opposite directions. Each brush may be divided into sections to enable the brush to be swung into contact with a curved portion of the ship's side. Other means such as a pressure fluid or ultrasonics may be combined with the brushes to loosen the growth.
