Apparatus for catching fish in a continuous manner comprises a net 10 adapted to be suspended from the fishing vessel and having an open mouth, means such as a flexible pipe 17 attached to the end of the net for conveying fish from the net to the vessel and a plurality of flexible supporting means connected to the net mouth adapted to be relatively shortened and lengthened so as to reverse the direction in which the net mouth faces relative to the vessel. The net mouth is formed by a square frame constituted by longitudinal members of lattice construction. A steel hawser 15 is connected to each corner of the net mouth, the two hawsers on one side of the mouth being passed to the bow of the vessel and the other two to the stern. Two controlling wires 16 extend from the bow and the stern to the net mouth. Further wires 18 extend from the ship to the end of the net and to the net mouth. The flexible pipe 17 passes over a wheel 19 to a pumping unit 20 at the stern. By moving the wheel 19 along a rail on the gunwale the length of the flexible pipe extending downwardly into the water is altered. The netting is supported by eight wires which extend from the frame at the net mouth through a smaller frame at the middle of the net to the reduced end of the net. Two narrow plates extend along two opposite members of the frame at the net mouth and assist in keeping the net down.
