[Also in Divisions C7 and H1] Photoconductive glass compositions comprises Weight Weight Weight Weight per cent per cent per cent per cent Se 93.6 92.3 88.6 69.3 As 5.0 2.7 10.1 8.2 Tl 1À4 5.0 1À3 22À5 These may be made by mixing powdered Se, arsenic selenide, and thallium selenide, and heating them e.g. at 400‹ C. in a quartz or hard glass tube under vacuum. The melt is poured into distilled water to produce glassy threads or pellets and the pellets used in a vapour deposition process to coat a substrate of Al, Ag, Cu, Cd or Te. Alternatively, the composition may be powdered or granulated; the powder may be sprayed on an electric conductive support, and heated to form a uniform smooth coating and cooled. Or the grains may be dispersed in a binder and applied to paper or an electric conductive support, followed by drying. The composition does not crystallize even if it is maintained at 100‹ C. for as long as 5 minutes.
