1,130,707. Diaminonaphthalene sulphonic acids. FARBENFABRIKEN BAYER A.G 5 June, 1967 [8 June, 19661, No. 25849/67. Heading C2C. The invention comprises 1,7-diamino-naphthalene-4-sulphonic acid and N-substitution products thereof and their salts. In a process for the preparation of 1,7-diaminonaphthalene- 4-sulphonic acid which may be N-substituted, 1 - amino - 7 - hydroxynaphthalene -, 1,7 - dihydroxynaphthalene- or 1,7-dihydroxy-2-carboxynaphthalene-4-sulphonic acid is aminated by methods known for producing naphthylamines from naphthols. The amination may be effected by heating the naphthol sulphonic acids in an autoclave with aqueous ammonia preferably in the presence of ammonium hydrogen sulphide or ammonium sulphide or sulphur dioxide. Instead of, or in addition to, ammonia primary or secondary amines may be used for the amination. Specific products described include 1,7-diaminonaphthalene-4- sulphonic acid and the corresponding 1,7-di- (methylamino) compound.
