Abstract
1,130,693. Rubber laminates. SEMPERIT OSTERREICHISCH AMERIKANISCHE GUMMIWERKE A.G. 6 Feb., 1967 [4 Feb., 1967], No. 5556/67. Heading B5N. A process for forming a bond between two components or layers of different natural or synthetic rubber polymers, each of which contains a different cross-linking agent, comprises placing the two components or layers in contact and cross-linking the rubber polymers, wherein the different cross-linking agents are so selected that the time of commencement of cross-linking and the duration of cross-linking respectively are substantially the same for the two polymers, at least one of said cross-linking agents having some cross-linking action on the rubber polymer containing the other crosslinking agent. A specified pair of cross-linking agents is sulphur and an organic peroxide or hydroperoxide or an alkyl-phenol-formaldehyde resin. Specified rubbers are natural rubber, styrene-butadiene rubber, ethylene-propyleneterpolymers, ethylene-propylene copolymers and butyl rubber. The rubber layers may contain known fillers and additives, e.g. carbon black, kaolin, chalk, silicic acid, colophony, talc, zinc oxide, zinc chloride, magnesium oxide, oils and softeners.
