Abstract

1276758 Cross-linking polymers MONTECATINI EDISON SpA 27 May 1970 [4 July 1969] 25464/70 Heading C3P [Also in Division C2] Plastomers, such as polyethylene, polypropylene and elastomers such as butyl rubber, neoprene, acrylic rubbers, ethylene-propylene and butadiene-styrene copolymers, are cross-linked by heating them with a compound of the Formula I where R 1 and R 2 are each an alkyl, aralkyl, cycloalkyl or aryl-cycloalkyl radical any of which may be alkyl or halogen substituted and R 3 -R 6 are each a hydrogen or halogen atom or an amino, alkyl, alkoxy, carbalkoxy, aralkyl, cycloalkyl or arylcycloalkyl radical which may be alkyl or halogen substituted. A typical composition may comprise in parts by weight: ethylene-propylene copolymer 100, carbon black 20-80, zinc oxide or magnesium oxide 1-10, sulphur 0À15-0À5, a compound I 0À005-0À02 (mols). In examples compound I is 1,1-di(tert.- butyl peroxy)-4-tert.-butyl-cyclohexane.
