Abstract

A covulcanizable composition comprises a linear, amorphous copolymer of ethylene and an alpha-olefin (e.g. propylene or butene), and a low molecular weight, hydrocarbon polymer having a viscosity ranging between 500 and 30,000 poises at 20 DEG C. (e.g. liquid depolymerized natural rubber, liquid butadiene-styrene copolymer, sodium-catalyzed polybutadiene or a mixture thereof). Optionally, a covulcanizable copolymer, such as natural rubber, or a rubbery synthetic diene polymer may be included. In examples, vulcanization is effected in the presence of kaolin, carbon black, litharge, sulphur and chlorinated p-tertiary butyl peroxide.
