Abstract

1,129,909. Vices. K. G. JENSEN and J. E. CARSSON. 28 Nov., 1966 [27 Nov., 1965], No. 53260/66. Heading B3B. A pneumatic vice includes a housing 1 in which are mounted a pair of interfitting U- shaped compression plates 2, 4, a pneumatically inflatable elastic bag 11 being interposed between the plates 2, 4 so that air pressure applied thereto forces projections, e.g. rollers 3, 5 carried by the side legs of the plates towards each other and against further projections 16 carried by a slide member 6, the wedging action between the projections serving to force the slide 6 laterally to clamp a workpiece. The slide 6 has spring-loaded thrust pads 7 which engage guide tracks 13 in the housing 1, the slide 6 being positionable so that the rollers 3, 5 nip the projections 16 on one side or the other so that the slide 6 may be forced in either direction.
