Abstract

1,156,282. Clamping machine tool slides. CHARLES CHURCHILL Ltd. 20 Oct., 1966 [3 Nov., 1965], No. 14896/68. Divided out of 1,140,916. Heading B3B. In a machine tool having two relatively movable members such as a slide and a bed 11, 14, respectively, the slide is movable along and clampable to the bed in any required position by clamping means 30 mounted on the slide 11 and which is engageable with a longitudinally extending rib 13 on the bed 14. The means 30 comprises a pair of pivotally mounted jaws 20 which, when actuated by spring and fluid means 3 grip the rib 13, flexible strip members 10 being located between the jaws and the rib 13 to permit some degree of transverse displacement between the clamp and the rib to avoid transverse displacement between the side and the bed when the clamping pressure is applied. The strip is secured to the slide, which in the embodiment described also carries the clamping means, and a strip securing block 12 is located intermediate a pair of clamps. It is stated that alternatively, the clamping means and strip may be mounted on the bed or fixed member.
