Abstract

1,015,436. Vices. A. SERRA. Nov. 19, 1964 [Nov. 19, 1963], No. 47215/64. Heading B3B. A vice comprises a jaw 1 having means 4 to co-operate with an operating member 5, the jaw being pivotable against the pressure of a spring 17 to release it for free movement. The jaw has two gripping portions 2, 3 and projections 12 sliding in grooves. The projections 12 have sloping faces 15, 16 to allow the pivoting movement of the jaw. The jaw can be reversed as in Fig. 6 to grip in the opposite direction. The jaw may have recesses 19 or projections or lips for enabling the operator to grasp it; helical springs instead of flat may be used and the toothed portion may be formed on slide 34, Fig. 13. In a further modification, the jaws are adjusted in the manner of a scroll chuck by a ring 35, Fig. 14. Two jaws 40, Fig. 17, may be provided or a number of jaws may be arranged in parallel or radially on a single base-plate.
