Abstract

1502939 Work supports W L OWEN 1 June 1976 22493/76 Heading B3B [Also in Division B4] A clamp, Fig. 6, comprises a pair of jaws 12, 14 of which 12 may be fixed to a bench or other surface and 14 has a handle 16, the jaws being movable towards and away from one another by a lazy tongue mechanism 28, 30, 50, 52, 40, 42 under the action of a screw 58 actuated by a knob 26. On the jaw 14 a workpiece engaging member 114 is biased upwardly by a spring 124 and may be moved downwardly into a workpiece gripping position by the action of cam members 142 which are actuated by a link 136 and lever 134. The lever 134 may be moved into an over-centre locked position from which it may be disengaged by a release lever 148. In a modification, Fig. 12, the jaws are moved towards and away from one another by a mechanism including cam surfaces 100, 106, 104, 102.
