Foodstuff is conveyed from a hopper to a conduit 8 by means of a belt and falls through apertures in the base of the conduit into a container positioned above a feeding trough, the base 3 of the container being pivoted to the front wall 2 and held in position by a stop on a lever 4. A bowden cable 6 operates the lever to open the base and thus dispense feed into the trough at intervals controlled by a time piece associated with a control rod 9. The front wall 2 and base 3 are movable vertically to vary the capacity of the container. A number of containers can be joined together and their bases opened simultaneously.
