A feeding trough for poultry is filled by means of a conveyer 3 and the trough is closed by a cover 2 as the conveyer 3 moves from right to left during a filling operation. The cover is suspended by chains 5 and a tube 4 in the cover moves along a support 7, the support 7 moving with the conveyer 3. To open the cover the conveyer 3 is moved in the opposite direction carrying the support 7 with it to pull the cover 2 up to the open position.
