A device for dispensing measured quantities of liquid, such as beer, comprises a free piston 11 movable in a cylinder 10, an inlet valve and an outlet valve at each end of the cylinder arranged such that when one inlet valve is open its associated outlet valve is closed, the valves at the opposite end of the cylinder then being in the reverse position, both outlet valves being provided with means for restricting the flow of liquid through the valve when it is open. The means for restricting the flow is in the form of plate 18 screwed into a passage 20 and provided with a plurality of apertures 19. Since the restriction to flow increases the pressure in the liquid, the tendency for the beer to froth is reduced.
