1,126,137. Composite polyamide filaments. SNIA VISCOSA SOC. NAZIONALE INDUSTRIA APPLICAZIONI VISCOSA S.p.A., and KANEGAFUCHI BOSEKI K.K. 6 April, 1967, No. 15880/67. Heading B5B. Composite polyamide filaments, having an improved latent crimpability, are prepared by simultaneously spinning together through the same spinneret orifice, two different fibreforming linear synthetic polymer components to form a uniform filament in which the components are in intimate adhering contact with each other, each component extending throughout the length of the filament, one component being polycaproamide or polyhexamethylene adipamide, and the other component being a co-polyamide which contains at least one polymeric structural unit derived from equimolar amounts of a dibasic acid and a diamine, at least one of said dibasic acid and said diamine having not more than 4 carbon atoms in its main molecular chain, and which has an average number of moles of amide linkages of between 5 and 15 per kg. of polymer in the main molecular chain. The two components in the composite filament may be in side-by-side relationship or in an eccentric sheath and core relationship, and the cross-section of the composite filament may be circular or non-circular. The composite filaments may be drawn and crimps developed by immersing weighted filaments in hot water.
