Abstract

An electrical connector comprises a body 1, Fig. 1, having a bore 3 containing a U-shaped insert, the limbs of which have parallel and opposite walls 11 defining a channel 12 in which a cable end is located by a plate 15 and grubscrews 16. The body 1 is generally made of a blank of inductive material which is subsequently milled or hobbed to form the bore 3 but may also be manufactured using precision bore tubing, in which case a cup-shaped member of sheet metal is press-fitted into the bore of the tubing to provide a seat for the member 4. As shown, a resilient socket member 2 is formed integral with the body 1 and is provided with a plurality of grooves 20 and a circumferential recess 21, the latter containing a circlip (30, Fig. 3, not shown) comprising a nose portion (34) extending through one of the slots 20 into the bore of the socket, arms which engage the recess and kinks (33, Fig. 3, not shown) on the ends of the arms engaging slots 20 to hold the circlip in position. In the corresponding plug member (Fig. 4, not shown) a conductive member (7) formed integral with the body 1 is provided near its end with a reduced diameter portion and at its end with another portion of larger diameter than the last mentioned portion, this end portion being formed with a flat part of D-shaped cross-section. In coupling the plug and socket, the flat of the end portion of the plug is aligned with the nose on the circlip and when the end portion of the plug has passed the nose, the plug is turned through half a revolution, such that the nose on the circlip engages the reduced diameter portion of the plug.
