Abstract

1,122,708. Removing waste from cut sheets. KIRBY'S (ENGS) Ltd. 26 July, 1967 [30 Sept., 1966], No. 43709/66. Heading B4B. Apparatus for removing waste 12 from sheet material 11 subsequent to cutting by a cutting apparatus comprises a pair of cylinders 101, 102 the cylinder 101, or 102, being provided with protuberances 103, e.g. of hard rubber, located at positions corresponding to the waste areas to be removed from a cut sheet and the cylinder 102, or 101, being provided with a covering 104 of deformable and resilient material e.g. sponge rubber, plastics material, a series of coiled spring bands or an inflatable rubber or plastics tyre whereby as the cylinders are rotated the protuberances bear on the waste areas and depress such areas into the covering of the other cylinder so that the waste is carried away from the cut sheet as the waste recedes from the nip of the cylinders. The covering 104 may have a casing 105 of harder material. If the cutting is imperfect, the waste may be removed by a vacuum duet, by one or more rotary brushes 13 or by a fixed brush or knife edge. The protuberances 103 may be carried by plates 107, and the covering 104 by plates 106, removably secured e.g. by adhesive to the cylinders 101, 102. The cutting apparatus may comprise a pair of cylinders or the material may be fed to the waste removal apparatus from a reciprocating type platen press.
