Abstract

112,248. English, W. P. Sept. 8, 1917. Breach mats.-A collision or breach mat consists of a number of rubber-edged sections b flexibly connected together and mounted in a frame d fitted with a propeller g for forcing the mat to the ship. The propeller is driven by an electric mctor h or by chain gearing and a flexible shaft from the ship. Springs s are arranged between the mat sections and the frame to bed the mat to any ordinary contour of hull. Four T-shaped clamps k are provided to engage the edges of the hole and secure the mat in position; for this purpose the clamps are rotatable by means of chain gearing n.
