Abstract

104,305. McDougall, A. Sept. 19, 1916. Steering and manoeuvring by screw propellers; detachable propelling-installations.-Two propellers 12 and their motors 11 and casing 10 arranged as a unit are adapted to be lowered or lifted in a guide on the stem 7 of a vessel by means of falls 21 and derrick arms 19. When not required, the unit is housed in a compartment formed between the plates 23, 24. The propeller shaft 12' is driven by a chain which passes over sprocket-wheels and through the tubes 14, 15.
