Abstract
1,122,362. Resistance heating elements. METALLWERK PLANSEE A.G. 24 Feb., 1966 [25 Feb., 1965], No. 8274/66. Heading H5H. A high temperature heating element is composed of wires of Mo or W to which alkali silicates or thorium oxide may be added, twisted together to form filaments which are arranged to form a fabric, mesh, net or grid. The filaments may be coiled and the element formed by linking a number of coils or by weaving the filaments into fabric. Manufacture may be carried out at 200-500‹ C. The ends of the coils or of the fabric are welded or riveted to U-shaped support plates of similar material which act as terminals. A number of elements may be arranged to form a cylinder, connected in series or series parallel and supplied with single or polyphase A.C. in a furnace operating under vacuum or with a protective gas.
