Abstract

1,119,964. Umbrellas. P. RAGO. 16 Aug., 1965 [17 Aug., 1964; 6 Aug., 1965], No. 34990/65. Heading A4P. The stick of an umbrella is locatable eccentrically of the opened cover and comprises a lower part 11 having a handle, an upper part 12 having a ferrule, and an interconnecting member consisting of articulated elements 14, 15, 16. The element 14 is rigidly secured to the stick part 12 and the elements 16, 15 are slidable in the stick part 11 to a projected position from which the element 16 is pivoted into parallelism with a stretcher 7 to which it is secured. The stretchers 7 are pivoted to a collar which is slidable on the shaft, and is retained in open and closed positions of the cover, by catches 19, 19<SP>1</SP>. A trigger extending between two adjacent stretchers may be provided for operation of the catch 19. The elements 14, 15, 16 are preferably of square or rectangular crosssection and a catch 23 is provided to retain the element 15 in the part 11.
