[Class 134.] In a folding umbrella or the like having a frame 1, the stick 3 and handle 4 are pivoted by a pair of links 5 to a trough-shaped member 6 connected by hinges 7 to another troughshaped member 8, The arrangement is such that the stick 3 may be swung from a position, Fig. 2, wherein substantially the whole of the closed umbrella rests within the member 6 to a position, Fig. 4, wherein the frame lies outside the member 6 so that the cover 2 may be opened. The members 6, 8, when closed together, form a casing for the umbrella in the collapsed position, or an elongated handle when in the extended position. For use in the latter position end-pieces 11 of the members 6, 8 are provided with recesses 10 of such a shape that when closed together they correspond to the cross section of the stick 3. The extended position is such that the cover may be held open or closed as desired. The members 6, 8 may be fastened by hooks or the like. The stick, handle, and casing may be made of wood, metals, or moulded material. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also a construction, Fig. 7 (Cancelled), wherein the casing 11 is a cylindrical closed sheath wherein the umbrella slides. The handle 4 is provided with spring pushbuttons 12 which secure the umbrella in a closed or extended position by engagement with holes 13 in the sheath. In the collapsed position the end of the sheath may be closed by a protective washer 14, Fig. 8 (Cancelled), of elastic or semi-rigid material. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
