Abstract
1,119,812. Shuttleless looms. A. E. MOES SINGER. 11 Feb., 1966 [15 Feb., 1965], No. 6078/66. Heading D1E. In a gripper shuttle loom a weft brake is applied in response to movement of the shuttle away from the shed after moving through the latter. As shown in Fig. 1 a spring loaded switch 14 is provided which when triggered by the arrival of the gripper shuttle causes a solenoid 18 to operate the weft brake 24. A timer motor 27 is provided so that if the gripper shuttle does not arrive in time the loom is automatically stopped. The switch 14 may be electromagnetic. In a second embodiment the arrival of the gripper shuttle triggers a mechanical weft brake on the exit side of the shed which operates by energy stored in a torsion arm. After severing the weft ends, they are taken away by a suction tube. In a third embodiment the movement of the gripper shuttle away from the shed takes the weft across the front of a grid against which it is held by a continuously moving stream of air. Weft ends are removed by a separate suction tube.
