Abstract

1303453 Weft insertion mechanism, carpet looms BRINTONS Ltd 24 June 1971 [6 July 1970] 32693/70 Heading DIE A carpet loom has a weft insertion needle 6 with a weft engaging slot 7 provided by a fixed jaw 32 and a spring loaded jaw 33, a weft cutter 12 to sever the weft 13 between the selvedge and the slot 7 as the inserter enters the shed, a weft gripper 16, at the far side of the shed, with jaws similar to those of the inserter, to take the weft from the inserter and to move it to the fell and a movable weft presenter 8 which, after beat-up, moves the weft, extending from the near selvedge to the supply, to position the weft across the path of the weft inserter in readiness for the next insertion. The jaws of the weft inserter are opened by a stationary cam 18, encountered by the inserter during its movement, to enable the weft gripper 16 to take the weft from the inserter and the jaws of the weft gripper 16 are similarly opened by a stationary cam 20 to release the weft at the fell.
