Abstract

1,209,123. Weft selection; shuttleless looms. NORTH AMERICAN ROCKWELL CORP. 23 April, 1968 [24 April, 1967], No. 19210/68. Heading D1E. A shuttleless loom which inserts hairpins of weft has a weft selection mechanism which presents weft to an inserter so that the first pick of a cycle inserts the second leg of a previously inserted hairpin, the second pick inserts the first leg of a new hairpin of the same weft, selection is then made and the third cycle inserts the second leg of the selected weft, the fourth cycle inserts the first leg of a hairpin of the same weft as selected in the third cycle, selection is then again made and weaving then proceeds with a selected weft always being inserted as the second leg of a previously inserted hairpin followed immediately by the first leg of a new hairpin of the same weft. In Figure 4 selection bars 80 to 84 are pivoted on a spindle 37 and, when selected, are pivoted clockwise by Bowden cables 93 to 96. The ends of the bars 80 to 84 have pins 87 which run in cam tracks 78 of plates 77 which are pivoted on a spindle 36 of a longitudinally movable rod 23. Pivotal weft guides 41 to 44 have plates 60 which are acted on by pins 79 of the plates 77. In use, and with all the guides 41 to 44 in the lowermost non-selected position of Fig. 2 and with all the wefts extending through the mechanism to the selvedge and into ithe fabric as first legs of hairpins, selection is made. The selected arm 80 then pivots to pivot the plate 77 (Fig. 6) so that it moves to an intermediate position A (Fig. 7) to move a weft guide eyelet 59 to position B, the selected weft then being in a position to be depressed by a presenter 105 in the path of a forked weft inserter operated by a tape wheel. As insertion is made the rod 23 is moved longitudinally so that a nose 33 acts on the weft to move it into a cutter and clamp 31 so that the cut weft is straightened out in the shed and forms the second leg of the hairpin and the clamped weft end extends from the clamp 31 to the supply by way of the guide eye 59 which has now been moved to a position C (Fig. 7) so that the weft is again in position to be depressed by the presenter 105 into as the first leg of the next hairpin and will again extend to the selvedge prior to the next selection being made.
