Abstract

1,119,485. Safe load indicators for Jib-cranes. WEIGHLOAD Ltd. 28 June, 1967 [7 July, 1966], No. 30626/66. Addition to 993,954. Heading B8B. The overload warning device claimed in Claim 1 of Specification 993,954 is modified for use with a crane having a telescopic jib in which an upper portion 14, Fig. 1, can be extended with respect to a lower portion. A slave-jib 26, Fig. 2, which is turned to the same angle as the main jib by a Bowden cable 29 has a lead screw 30 and a nut 31 which moves up and down the screw as the jib is extended. The screw is rotated by a Bowden cable 45 and a spring drum 44, Fig. 1, rotated by a cable 43. The nut 31 moves a pointer 19 through levers 35, 38 a toothed quadrant 40 and gears 41, 42. The slave-jib also moves the pointer 19 through the same linkages. A pointer may be attached to a projection 48, Fig. 2, and co-operate with a scale 50, Fig. 3 (not shown), to indicate the working radius of the crane. Alternatively, a pointer may be fitted to a pin 31A to move over a scale which indicates both working radius and jib length Fig. 4 (not shown).
