Abstract

1,115,009. Hammer mills. A. FOURCADE. 15 Nov., 1965 [13 Nov., 1964], No. 48476/65. Heading B2A. A hammer mill is provided with pneumatic forced circulation and has three air intakes along the path followed by the material to be ground, the first intake, which is in a feed hopper 1, Fig. 1, ensuring a constant admission of air and the other two 23, Fig. 3, and 27, Fig. 4, acting in succession to admit extra air in proportion to the extra suction set up in the circuit, when the flow of material through the device is slowed down below a predetermined level. The extra air intakes are controlled by automatically-operated, adjustable shutters 24, Fig. 3, and 28 so arranged that the downstream valve 28 opens only when the upstream valve 24 is almost entirely open. The hammers of the mill are somewhat triangular, the base 7, Fig. 2, of the triangle being curved and the two sides 8 having in the neighbourhood of the base a concavity giving the ends of the base a pointed shape. This facilitates penetration of the hammer into the material. The walls of the grinding chamber 10 have counter hammers 17 formed by bars along the cylindrical wall of the grinding chamber parallel to the longitudinal axis of the chamber and at right angles to the direction of displacement of the hammers.
