Abstract

[Also in Divisions El and F2] A folding shutter suitable for use in a fire damper comprises a plurality of individual blades, e.g. 52-56 (Figure 2), each including a central web and two parallel extending hinge elements at opposite edges thereof and extending longitudinally continuously for the full web length, one form of hinge element being interfittable within the other form on an adjacent blade and each of the elements being of asymmetric shape in cross-section and when interfitted with the other form of hinge element being relatively rotatable about an axis non-coincident with the centvoidal axis of either element, (see Figs. 14 and 19) whereby the blade assembly may be opened out into flat curtain form and may be compacted into a minimum volume by reversely folding adjacent blades of said assembly against one another. The blade assembly is mounted in a rectangular frame and held in a compacted position by a fusible fire link restraining expanding springs 60. In the event of a fire the assembly is released and unfolds to close the air flow path.
