Abstract

[Also in Division E1] A fire damper construction movable between a folded position permitting passage of fluid and an unfolded flow blocking position comprises a blade assemblymounted in a frame, the frame being provided with an elongated guide, and the blade assembly consisting of blades which are hingedly interconnected along longitudinal blade edges and each of which has a slot in an end edge, preferably both end edges, thereof to receive the guide with portions of each blade disposed on opposite sides of the guide. As shown in Figs. 2 and 6, blades 30a-d are formed with flat portions 34 joined by integral offset portion 36, and hooks 38 engaged in link 40. Inner surfaces of uprights 12 of the frame include guide tracks 26 with opposed faces 50a, 50b. Each blade (except 30a) has at its ends 46 a slot 48 such that in the unfolded state portions 34 are on opposite sides of track 26 and bear flatly against 50a and 50b, providing a smoke seal. Blades 30a-d are of differing widths so that, when folded links 40 may overlap vertically (Figs. 4, 5, not shown). The blade assembly is maintained folded by a fusible link against the action of a spring 56, or against the weight of the assembly plus an added weight 62. The assembly can be locked in the unfolded position by means of catch 66 with handle 68.
