Abstract

1,250,781. Folding ladder. H. P. KNIGHT. 11 Dec., 1968 [13 Dec, 1967], No. 56636/67. Heading E1S. [Also in Division A4] A folding ladder which may be converted, e.g., into a step ladder or a trestle, comprises at least three sections connected in end to end relation. At least two of the connections are hinges which are preferably U section pieces 6 and 7 overlapping the end of stiles and the U section on two adjacent stiles being pivotally connected at 8. Stays 12 may be provided to hold the sections at a given angle to each other. A second coupling device may be a sleeve which frictionally engages with two adjacent stiles (Fig. 9 not shown). A locking device may be provided to lock the sections in alignment which may be a U section member spring mounted in one stile with the legs extended therefrom and which fit in the abutting stile (Figs. 10 and 11 not shown). A second locking device is shown in Fig. 4, movement of lever 14 causes pin 19 to disengage from U-section hinge member 6 enabling the ladder to be folded.
