Abstract
1,007,439. Scaffolding. G. WENGER. April 25, 1962 [May 3, 1961; June 30, 1961; Aug. 3, 1961], No. 15698/62 Heading E1S. [Also in Division A6] The sections of a folding ladder are connected by hinges comprising sleeves 1, 2 pivoted together by a bolt 7 the sleeve 1 having an enlarged part 11 adapted to overlap the end of the sleeve 2 when the sleeves and ladder sections to which they are connected are in alignment in which position a spring bolt 16 in the sleeve 2 is adapted to engage an aperture 25b in the sleeve 1. A spring pin 20 having an external hand knob slides transversely in the bolt 16 and moves with it and in slot in the sleeve 2 and is adapted to engage an aperture in the sleeve 1, when the sleeves are aligned, to lock the bolt 16. The bolt and pin are cammed into the apertures by inclined parts. Adjacent hinges are arranged on opposite sides of the ladder so that it is folded in zigzag fashion. The top section of the ladder may be hinged over to engage a wall. The ladder is shown folded in half for use as a stop ladder. Scaffolding The end sections 33, 35, Fig. 5 may be bent down so that the ladder can be used as scaffold platform. Stays 27 hold the parts in position. The stays may be chains, the ends of which slide on rods along the ladder sides.
