Abstract

a -Tocopheryl acid succinate is obtained by reacting a -tocopherol with succinic anhydride in the presence of anhydrous sodium acetate, an organic acid and a metal which will react with the organic acid to form hydrogen in the reaction mixture to prevent the oxidation of the a -tocopherol. In examples dl-a -tocopherol and d-a -tocopherol are reacted with succinic anhydride in the presence of anhydrous sodium acetate, acetic acid and zinc.
