Abstract
A 3,17-diester of estradiol is obtained by isomerising a compound of the formula: <FORM:0929158/IV(a)/1> where R represents a hydrogen atom or an acyloxy radical derived from an organic carboxylic acid, with a lower organic acid halide, e.g. acetyl chloride. The product may be saponified to give estradiol which may be re-esterified. Specifications 914,736 and 914,737 are referred to.
