Abstract

1,111,566. Aircraft lift engine doors. PLESSEY-U.K. Ltd. 13 Oct., 1966 [4 Nov., 1964], No. 44968/64. Heading B7G. An aircraft has direct lift jet engines in a nacelle which has upper and lower doors 6, 7, 8, 9 covering the intakes and exhausts. The doors are connected by link rods 21, 22 to a common actuating block 16 in such a way that with the aircraft in its normal attitude the forces due to gravity transmitted to the actuating block through the link rods substantially cancel each other out. The rods 22 are connected directly to the lower doors 8, 9, hinged at 15 to the nacelle, and the rods 21 are connected to bell cranks 10 connected to the doors 6, 7, the outer edges of which are guided by tracks 13 as they are translated to and from the closed positions shown by broken lines at 6a, 7a. The actuating block is threaded and engages a screw 18 driven by a displacement air motor 28 controlled by a valve 29 operated by the pilot and by a feedback control 31 which closes the valve when the doors are fully open or closed.
