Abstract

1,035,898. Aircraft with direct lift engines. DORNIER-WERKE G.m.b.H. Nov. 24, 1964 [Nov. 26, 1963], No. 47729/64. Heading B7G. An aircraft with jet lift engines has means for deflecting the engine efflux laterally away from the longitudinal axis of the aircraft. As described, the engines 2 are fixed in wing- mounted nacelles 1, or in the fuselage, and their efflux passes downwardly through nozzles 7 pivotable for attitude control, and may also be deflected by flaps which are pivotable to open and close the engine compartment. The efflux may be deflected by only partly opening one flap, or by partly opening both flaps (Fig. 2, not shown), one of which is fitted with a cascade of vanes 5 rotatable to close when the flap is closed. Cascades of vanes may be pivotably mounted on the outer edges of the flaps (Fig. 6, not shown), or may be formed as eyelid deflectors (Fig. 7, not shown), or may be arranged to telescope towards the sides of the engine compartment (Figs. 8 and 11, not shown). Alternatively, a single flap is used, having two parts hinged or otherwise connected together (Figs. 4 and 5, not shown).
