A tool for crimping the walls of an internal groove (32), Fig. 3 (not shown), about a filiform element (34), e.g. a thermocouple, comprises a support 2, a pair of levers 8, 10 pivoted on the support and having crimping jaws 12, 14 held apart by a spring 24, a cam (16), Fig. 2 (not shown), for operating the levers to close the jaws, means 30 for operating the cam, and a guide 36 for positioning the tool. The cam (16) is carried by a rod 18 and operated, against a return spring 22, by a screw 28. A groove 38 in the guide 36 locates over a rib (40a, Fig. 3) to position the tool in a hollow workpiece, shims adjusting the guide in relation to a yoke 4 sup. porting the jaws. The length of the tool enables operation of the jaws from outside the workpieces. A continuous crimp may be formed by moving the closed jaws along the walls.
