Abstract

1,109,299. Piling material; pneumatic conveyers. MO OCH DOMSJO, AKTIEBOLAG. 30 June, 1965 [30 June, 1964], No. 27791/65. Headings B8A and B8E. [Also in Division D1] An installation for storing wood chips comprises a conveyer 4, Fig. 1, for supplying chips to the centre of an annular storage area, a conveyer 7, 8 for feeding chips, received from the conveyer 4, to the area, a chip removal device 10-18 for removing chips from the area and feeding them to the centre, and a conveyer (20), Fig. 4 (not shown), for receiving chips from the chip removal device and conveying them away from the area, the conveyer 7, 8 and the chip removal device 10-18 being horizontally rotatable about the centre so that chips are fed to one end and removed from the other end of a split annular chip pile 1 formed in the area. As particularly described, the conveyers 4, 7, 8 and (20) are pneumatic conveyers and the removal device includes a suction nozzle (12), the chips being supplied from the pile to the latter by an endless chain scraper conveyer 11, Fig. 3, and the nozzle 12 feeding a conveyer 18 leading to the centre. The pneumatic conveyers may be replaced by conveyer belts and the scraper conveyer 11 may be replaced by screw conveyers. The conveyer 4 is disposed in a culvert 5, Fig. 5, and is joined to the conduit 7 of the conveyer 7, 8 at a rotatable joint 6. The conduit leads to the conduit 8 which is rotatable around a horizontal axis and the conduits 7 and 8 may be moved vertically relative to the conveyer 4. The conveyer 7, 8 is disposed on a driven carriage 9. Suction for the nozzle 12 is provided by a fan 13, the chips passing to a cyclone 14 from which they are delivered to the conveyer 18. The conveyer 11, the nozzle 12, the fan 13 and the cyclone 14 are mounted on a carriage 16 which is movable radially of the area on a carriage 17, the latter being movable about the centre of the area and carrying the conveyer 18. The air from the fan 13 is fed through a conduit 21 to heating units 22 on the carriage 9 from which it passes through perforate pipes 23, which are carried by the carriage 9 and extend into the bottom of the pile. The carriages 9 and 17 may be combined in a single carriage. The conveyer 7, 8 may be replaced by a conduit extending from a central mast at a height equal to or above that of the pile. Television cameras may be used to monitor the installation from a central control room. Steam may be supplied to the pile through the pipes 23. The chips may be delivered to cellulose-pulp factories, wallboard factories and saw mills.
