[Also in Division D1] A shaft is supported by a plain journal bearing 6 and by a footstep 3, the end of the shaft having a screwthread to force lubricant from the footstep bearing through a passage external to the shaft to the plain bearing ' 6. In the Figure accompanying the complete Specification lubricant is pumped by the shaft from a reservoir and through hole 4, the space around the spindle, and passages 14, 11, 10 to the bearing surface of bush 6. The oil returns via passage 12 to a space between bolster 9 and a mounting (not shown). In another embodiment lubricant, is forced downwardly through passage (4) and passes via a passage (5) to bush (6) excess lubricant from bush (6) passing into the space between shaft (1) and bolster (9).
