Abstract

A sulphuric or hydrochloric acid pickling bath comprises an organic acid inhibitor and a compound which liberates colloidal sulphur, e.g. sodium thiosulphate or sodium polysulphide. The inhibitor may be amines, mercaptans, heterocyclic nitrogen compounds, substituted ureas and thioureas, sulphides and aldehydes. A surface active agent may be added to the bath.
