Abstract

A razor blade is made from a steel comprising:- .C.0.32 - 0.7% .Cr.12 - 16% .Si.0 - 0.5% .Mn.0 -0.5% .Ni.0 - 0.5% the balance, apart from impurities (e.g. 0.025% max. P and 0.02% max. S), being iron. The steel may be austenetized at 1080 DEG -1160 DEG C., water quenched, refrigerated (e.g. at -25 DEG to -50 DEG C.) to transform at least 75% of the austenite to martensite and optionally tempered at 220 DEG C. The blade is then sharpened and may have a fluocarbon shave facilitating coating applied thereto in accordance with U.S.A. Specification 3,071,856.
